Morrison Hall Refurbishment
Project Summary
About
The refurbishment began with restoring Morrison Hall’s structural integrity. The front façade was pulling away from the building, causing damage to the roof, veranda and internal ground-floor slab.
Following the safe removal of asbestos walls and ceilings, our team demolished the damaged slab to investigate the existing footings. These were deeper than anticipated, prompting a revised structural solution. Instead of underpinning, the façade was tied back to structural concrete columns at the rear of the building through thickenings in the slab.
Additional structural bracing was installed within the roof cavity, along with a shelf angle beneath the first-floor deck. Together, these works secured the façade to the broader building structure to prevent further movement.
The interior was refurbished to a high standard, modernising the space while respecting the building’s original heritage character following successive renovations.
