About
A 1970s machinery workshop transformed into a modern university office. Responsive construction methods and reuse of existing materials helped manage unforeseen conditions, protect the budget and maintain the programme.
We were engaged to design and construct the refurbishment of an industrial-style workshop at the University of Queensland’s Gatton campus, converting the existing building into a modern office workspace.
By undertaking demolition, ceilings and partitions with our own team, we could respond promptly to unforeseen site conditions without impacting the overall project budget.
Close collaboration with the consultant team allowed the design to be adjusted as conditions were uncovered. Practical construction advice helped resolve these changes and maintain the programme.
Bricks and hardwood timber were salvaged during demolition and reused in the refurbishment, retaining existing materials and reducing the project’s embodied energy.
